Come and See (RE)

NEW TOPIC Being Sorry

LEARNING FOCUS 1: Jesus helps us when we make wrong choices.

Talk about the qualities of being a good friend and discuss making right/wrong choices. Look at the picture in God’s Story 2 page 68.  Explain how Jesus was gathering a group of people to help him spread the Good News.  He chose people who would follow him faithfully and would be sorry for when they made wrong choices.  Levi the tax collector was one of those people.

This is what happened:

One day Jesus saw Levi, the tax collector, sitting at his table collecting people’s taxes. Jesus knew Levi had not always been honest, but still he asked him to follow his way. Levi was really pleased at Jesus’ invitation and he got up and said: ‘Come to my house I am going to have a big party to celebrate.’  Levi changed his ways and became a friend of Jesus.

Based on Luke 5: 27-31

Can you imagine they are Levi and to write a note of thanks to Jesus for helping him to change his ways?

Can you write a sorry prayer together, that Levi might have said to Jesus, saying why he was sorry?

LEARNING FOCUS 2: Jesus forgives us when we make wrong choices.

Jesus met a chief tax collector, called Zacchaeus.  Read his story God’s Story 2 pages 70-71 Good News for Zacchaeus, based on Luke 19:1-10.   Look at the picture from page 70 and explain that when we make wrong choices like Zacchaeus did, we need to show that we are sorry in some way.

These are two separate stories about Zacchaeus

  1. Levi gave a big party to say he was sorry.
  2. Zacchaeus gave his money to the poor and the people he had cheated to show he was sorry.

Can you act out one of the stories?

Can you make a story board of the events?
