Maths

Autumn 2019

This term we will be focusing on place value, addition and subtraction and measure. The children will have the opportunity to work with concrete, pictorial and abstract concepts to help consolidate their knowledge and we will be completing work independently, in groups and in pairs.

We will also be working on developing the children's problem solving and reasoning skills through a variety of challenges.

How to help your child at home

Talk about Maths – give your child opportunities to reason and explain why in relation to number problems.

Applying maths into everyday life (paying in the shops, baking etc)

Writing the numerals - number formation and spelling of number names.

Get children into habit of telling the time and knowing the time events happen throughout day.

Discuss important dates; make days of the week/month of year charts.

Useful resource book you can purchase are: CGP books, Schofield and Sims.

Times Tables

By the end of Year 2, children are expected to know their 2, 3, 5, & 10 times tables off by heart. If your child is secure in these already, please encourage them to learn the others.

Children will be tested every week. If they get all the answers correct they will move up to the next level. Please support your child in learning their times tables.

All children have been given a login for Times Tables Rockstars which can be accessed to help support their recall of the times tables facts.
