Learning Focus 3: A New Start
Lent is a special time when the family of Jesus think about making a new start. There are occasions when everyone wishes they could make a new start. They wish they could do things differently and not have said or done something unkind, hurtful or silly. It is a time when the family of Jesus try to change and be more like Jesus.
Joel, a wise man who lived some time before Jesus was born, gives some advice about making a new start. Read God’s Story 2 (Link below) Come turn to me. Explain that this is God speaking to us and that God does not change because God is always kind and loving.
Can you write and/or draw ways in which you can change and make a new start?
Learning Focus 4: The story of Palm Sunday.
The time came for Jesus to go to Jerusalem. Usually Jesus walked quietly with his disciples from one place to another, but Jesus knew this was to be a very special time, different from anything else. Read God’s Story 2 page 76 (link below), Mark 11: 1-11, Palm Sunday. Explain that a colt is a young donkey. Christians celebrate this special day in church and call it Palm Sunday, it is the beginning of a special time called Holy Week.
Can you select greeting words from the story and write your own message of welcome for Jesus as he arrives in Jerusalem?
Have Fun!
