Hi Reception,

So here we are again...a new week and another set of home learning activities.  It seems like forever ago since we were altogether in our classroom.  It's a good job I see you on our live sessions each week, as I don't think I would recognise you, I can see you have all grown so much.

I hope you all had a good weekend and enjoyed time relaxing, playing with your toys and getting some fresh air.  I went on a lovely walk with my family and enjoyed some baking with Joseph and Hollie.

I will be giving you all a call this week to see how everything is going, I can't wait to chat to you and find out what activities you have enjoyed completing.

As always, keep smiling, stay safe and enjoy your learning.

Love Mrs Wright xx

Writing

  • Create a lost poster for the penguin.  Try and describe what he looks like.

  • Write a list of what you would pack in your suitcase if you were going to Antarctica.

  • Find out about penguins.  Label a picture of a penguin or write some sentences about the information you learn about penguins. (See CBeebies clip)

  • The boy and the penguin become good friends at the end of the story.  What makes a good friend?  How are you a good friend.

I have added some writing sheets below, if you wish to print them off.  Don't worry if you don't have a printer, all writing can be completed in your home learning books.

REVEAL: The story of the Presentation
Read and share together…

Mary and Joseph took Jesus to the Temple. He was their baby boy and they wanted to thank God for him. At the Temple they met Simeon and Anna who were both old and had been going to the Temple to pray for many years. They were very happy to see Jesus and thank God for him.

Can you answer these questions?
• What do you see in the picture?
• Why did Mary and Joseph take Jesus to the Temple?
• Who were the people that they met?
• Why did Simeon and Anna go to the Temple?

What do you think Simeon and Anna said to Mary and Joseph? Do you think they spoke to baby Jesus? What did they say? Use the speech
bubbles to write the words they said.

Knowledge and Understanding the World

Over the last few weeks we have been learning about the four seasons and in particular winter.  The weather in winter is often very cold, there are some places in our world that are cold all year round.  This week we are going to be learning about the Polar Regions.

  • Sort the animals into two groups , those that live in the Arctic and those that live in the Antarctic
  • If you have a globe or an atlas, see if you can find the polar regions.  How do you think you would travel to the Arctic or Antarctic?  Would you like to live in one of these places?

  • Draw or paint your favourite polar animal.  Tell me an interesting fact you have found out about it.

  • Try this amazing ice experiment, can you make ice grow?

  • In the story Lost and Found, Penguin and the boy travelled in a boat.  Investigate floating and sinking.  What would be the best material to make a boat to float in the water?  Test out your ideas.  Don't forget to send me photographs of your boats.

Creative and Physical development

  • Create a penguin or polar bear picture or model.  Here are some examples you might want to try.

  • Make coloured ice cubes for painting.  Use an ice cube tray and add food colouring to the water before putting them in the freezer.  Children can then paint with the ice and investigate colour mixing as the ice starts to melt.

  • Take part in Andy's wild workout in the Arctic.
  • Try Pedro the Penguin's cosmic yoga

I hope you enjoy all of your activities this week and I look forward to seeing you all on our Live session on Monday morning and catching up with you on the phone later in the week too.

Have fun and work hard.
