Hi Reception, here we are in our final week of home learning, before we all return to our classroom on the 8th March...I'm eagerly crossing off the days until then.  I can't wait to see you and hear all about what you have enjoyed with your families over the last couple of months.  I hope I recognise you all though, as I'm sure you will have grown so much and be super clever after all of your hard work at home.

This week we will continue to learn about Africa and as it's World Book day on Friday I have planned some activities to celebrate the joy of reading.  If you haven't had chance to photograph yourself reading in an unusual place, why don't you have a go this week. Make sure you remember to put your photographs on the school blog.

See you on Monday for our live session.

Take care and stay safe, love Mrs Wright xx

Writing

  • Gerald the Giraffe found that he was very good at dancing.  What is your talent?  Draw a picture and write a sentence about what you are good at.  Why are you special like Gerald?

  • Write a list of all the animals in the story.  Is your favourite African animal in the story?

  •  Draw/paint a picture of Gerald either at the beginning of the story or the end.  Write words around your picture to describe his feelings at the time.

  • Write a sentence or two about your favourite part of the story.

  • Gerald the Giraffe is a rhyming story.  Can you write a list of words that rhyme with sun?  Maybe you could make other rhyming lists.

  • Gerald the Giraffe is my favourite story.  What is your favourite story? Complete the book review below to tell me why you love your chosen book.

Come and See (RE)

Reveal week 2 - The joy of gathering together to celebrate at Mass.

Talk about what is happening in this picture.  Point out how the congregation are singing
together as they gather.  Can children remember any of the hymns we sing together in school?

Think about the following questions:

Q What do you see in the picture?
Q Who are the people in the picture?
Q What are the Church family doing
together? (singing a gather song)
Q What is happening? (Priest and altar
servers processing in)

Talk about welcoming, gathering and listening. These words are used by the priest to welcome people at the beginning of Mass: “The Lord be with you.” And the people say, “And with your spirit.” Write these words in the speech bubbles and add them to a picture of the priest and congregation.  You can print this picture out or draw your own.

Knowledge and Understanding the World

This week we will continue to learn about Africa, we will be looking at the rainforests in Uganda and The Congo.  Are these rainforests the same or different to the African Savanna we looked at last week?  Can you find Uganda on a globe/map? Is it near Kenya?

  • Watch the video about the rainforest and go through the PowerPoints below. Can you talk about some of the animals that live in the rainforest? Can you remember any facts about the rainforest? Write these down or create some pictures.

Follow Andy on his adventures in Africa to find out about two of the animals that live in the African Rainforest.

Can you make your own explorers outfit, like Andy's (e.g. binoculars, sunhat, backpack) and head out to the garden or on your daily walk. What creatures can you find? Are they similar to any you might see in the rainforest? Take photographs.

The Oak Academy also have two lessons all about Rainforests.  Click on the links below to access the lessons.
