Welcome to Reception Class Page 2023

Dear Parents/Carers and Children,

We wanted to send out a huge congratulations to you all for a wonderful start to school life.  The children have settled in so well and always arrive and leave with huge smiles on their faces.  They have enjoyed making new friends and trying new activities, showing enthusiasm and energy.wink  As we approach the business and excitement of Christmas in a reception class we wanted to share with you some photographs of our time in Reception so far.  You can see a little of what we have been learning, as we know from experience you will get a variety of 'I don't know', 'I've forgot', 'nothing' or 'just played all day'.

We look forward to getting to know you all this year and developing our partnership to provide the best education for your child.

Take care

Chinese New Year Fun

Week Beg:23/01/23

This week we have been learning all about Chinese New Year, we have enjoyed making dragons, lanterns, money envelopes and other craft activities.  On Thursday we tasted noodles, rice and prawn crackers, the children certainly enjoyed these...we couldn't keep up with the requests of...'can we have more please?'  We finished the week off with dance and music in the hall, some of us even got to wear traditional Chinese clothes.  We have also been learning the days of the week, keeping a diary of what we do each day and thinking about our favourite.   It was lovely to hear that many of their favourite days were Monday to Friday because, 'I love playing with my friends' or 'I like learning in school' or 'I like pizza Friday'. The children eagerly asked which was my favourite,  I assured them that my favourite day is Monday 'because I love coming to school after a rest and seeing their smiley faces!'

Have a lovely weekend! smiley

Christmas film treat day

Another busy week in Reception!

Week Beg 21/11/22

This week started with our World Cup day, we looked at all the different teams in the competition and found some of them on the globe.  Each class in the school has been given a different country to research and learn a little about.  Our country is Spain.  We had lots of fun painting Spanish flags, learning to speak a little Spanish, flamenco dancing and making cakes topped with the Spanish Flag.  We also had time to watch England's first match and enjoyed cheering (very loudly) each time a goal was scored...I ended up going home with a little earache! wink

We are all working so hard during our RWI phonic sessions and enjoying writing at every opportunity, especially when we can go and show off our work to other teachers around our school.  In our number work we have been focusing on numbers to 5 and investigating different ways of making 5, we have particularly enjoyed making 'sandwiches' with the numicon and loved correcting their 'silly' teacher who can't order numbers to 5! My favourite comment being "Mrs Wright you don't know very much do you!' laugh
