Year 6

Good morning!

Sorry for the late update, but I am guessing that you have started to realise the format of work that we are following for the next week or so (I will begin to upload some PowerPoints/Videos for new learning in maths soon).

Maths: first 6 questions on pages 10, 11, 12.

SPaG: pages 7 & 8.

Education City and TTRS: Daily activities to practice a variety of subjects (French, Science, English, XTables etc - as much as you like!)

Again, the main task whilst the weather is glorious is to spend time outside/in your garden with family members/on face time to your friends/family members that don't live in your house and to make each other laugh or smile. Do something creative/that you love! Anything that makes you happy. I will list suggested outdoor activities again, can you do create/do these activities via FaceTime/with someone in your household? Don't forget to keep me updated with what you're getting up to. I will have a go some videos/challenges if you upload them and tag us on Twitter (If they're sensible/actual do-able!)

Suggested outdoor activities are: write a setting description (remember the senses/interesting sentence starters)

write a poem or prayer about hope/peace.

Write your own song lyrics.

Draw a picture of what you can see/what you would like to see (use your imagination).

READ?! Read outloud to a family member, share the reading.

Act out different scenes from your favourite  book (or film?).

Create a dance (extra brownie points for this!)

Creative/imaginative play!

If you do have chance to do something creative outside over the next days, PLEASE video/take pictures and tag us on our Twitter page - I've even created my own Teacher Twitter page so follow me and tag me to keep in touch.

Missing you all, (yes! ALL of you). See you soon, keep smiling, keep safe.

Daily work will follow the previous formats.

Maths: first 6 questions of pages 7, 8 and 9.

SPaG: pages 5 and 6.

Your main task today is to spend some time outside (in your garden if possible!) and just enjoy the blue skies and warm-ish weather.

20mins of TTRS.

SPaG: pages 3 and 4.

Education City: French, Science and any other revision topics of your choice.

Writing: If you didn't finish your Diary Entry from yesterday, feel free to finish it or add to it. And if you get really bored, you can edit it ;) .

Good Morning Year 6! :)

Hope you are all keeping safe.

Today, I would like you to read the first 5 pages of 'War Horse' (and write 5 bullet points to summarise what you have read in your yellow exercise book).

Maths - 20 x mins of TTRS (Timetable Rock Stars) as well as the first 6 questions of the first, second and third page in your arithmetic booklet (6 on the first page, 6 on the second page and 6 on the third page).

Writing - Either, a diary entry/extract of how you and your family are keeping entertained/feeling or as a character from a book you are reading. (I don't mind what you include in your diary! just check for Year 6 punctuation!)

SPaG - Get an adult to test you on last week's spellings if you can. And complete the first two pages in your SPaG booklet.

Don't forget your P.E lesson with Joe Wicks off YouTube - if you can't do it live at 9am, catch up any time today!

Remember to check each morning for daily work!

Keep smiling, Miss Thompson x

A HUGE thank-you to Ross, who is our P.E coach, for organising a Dodgeball competition between us and Queens Park Primary. We had an amazing afternoon and after many close matches, our Y6 were awarded winners of the 'Battle of Rivington Road'

In Art, we are focusing on European Artists (as well as studying Europe in Geography) with a specific focus on Michaelangelo. We are working on building up to our own paintings through sketching and reflecting before we choose our favourite structure and pictures to paint.

This week, as part of our celebration of topic in Come and See, we have created our own bookmarks using our favourite scipture from the Bible. We have really enjoyed this topic and we have learned alot of interested facts and read some inspiring passages. Check out our display in school that showcases our versions of inspiring passages.

As part of January's Holocaust Memorial Day, Year 6 were lucky enough to be invited to take part in a workshop at Chester Lane Library. We read extracts from Anne Frank's diary (we even had chance to do some diary writing ourselves!) and returned to school utterly inspired with lots -and lots- of interesting questions!

Over the past few weeks, we have enjoyed being taxonomists in science whilst studying the classification of living things. Ask us about taxonomists, Carl Linneaus and the classification system! Keep checking our page to see us having more fun whilst carrying out our investigations!

Miss Thompson was very proud of the Y6 children that represented our school at a debate competition held at Rainford CofE this week. A huge well done!

A huge 'Hello' from our Infant Buddies in Year 6! We are responsible for leading playground games with the infants and demonstrating good social skills to our younger members of school.

We have loved immersing ourselves in the wonderful festive celebrations and worship during Advent!

As part of Anti-Bullying Week 2019,Y6 created their own contemporary dance routines using friendship as a stimulus. The children shared lots of thoughtful and mature ideas and words to inspire their movements.

Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed welcoming our new Reception class into our St. Teresa's family this half term. September/October 2019.
